Sea Otters Saved from Oil Slick 

The zoo is hosting a couple of very lucky new arrivals. Sea otter Sarah and her pup Sonny were rescued from an oil spill last week and brought to the zoo to recover. The zookeeper says that these two Enhydra lutis are well enough for visitors now, so roving rodent reporter Zoey the zoo mouse and photographer Zeek drop by to find out what happened.

They find it particularly odd that the bird doesn’t fly much and they want to know if he was injured in the wild, and if that’s how he wound up at the zoo. Zoey, flanked by photographer Zeek, gets the word straight from Silas the secretary bird’s mouth.

 

Mob of Meerkats Misjudged by Many

This week, roving rodent reporter Zoey the zoo mouse investigates why many animals at the zoo suspect that the meerkats are up to something in their exhibit. Some speculate that they have established some sort of commune, and others have heard the Suricata suricatta are part of the mob. Matilda and Max, the dominant meerkats, sit down with Zoey and Zeek to reveal the truth, once and for all.

 

Nile Monitor Makes No Apologies for Nasty Nature

This week, roving rodent reporter Zoey the zoo mouse is on assignment to talk with Varanus niloticus, more commonly known as the Nile monitor, about her recent attack on a zoo guest. Although the guest sustained no serious injuries, the incident caused quite a stir. Zoo animals are eager to hear what caused Martha the monitor to lash out. Word of a scandal is spreading throughout the zoo. Rumor has it that the Litocranius walleri, or gerenuks, have been trained to walk upright in order to get more attention from zoo guests. Zoo animals have never seen a gazelle that can stand on two legs, and certainly none of the Thomson’s gazelles believes it’s possible without instruction. Despite Gossip, Group of Grazing Geladas Gets Along Fine

This week, roving rodent reporter Zoey the zoo mouse talks with three Theropithecus geladas—or geladas as they are more commonly known. Due to their unique family unit and unusual feeding habits, these primates have been a source of gossip and speculation at the zoo for some time. Zoey, accompanied by photographer Zeek, drops by the gelada exhibit to get the story from Jane, Jill, and Jack Gelada.

 

Fur Flies with Felis Caracal

Roving rodent reporter Zoey the zoo mouse and photographer extraordinaire Zeek are live with the zoo’s latest addition, Felis caracal, more commonly known as the caracal. He was recently transferred from another zoo, and now that he’s settled in, Zoey has caught up with him to learn all about this fascinating feline.
